Coast Salish Tribes

The term “Coast Salish Tribes” refers to tribes and bands that inhabited the region from the coast of what is present-day British Columbia, down to Lower Chehalis; inland along the Skagit and Fraser Rivers; along the Juan de Fuca Strait, Strait of Georgia, and Straits Salish; and surrounding the Puget Sound. These tribes also shared an overarching Central Salishan linguistic family, branching off into Lushootseed, Straits Salish (further into Klallam, and more), Twana, et cetera.   • (Per the website: Tulalip Tribes are the successors in interest to the Snohomish, Snoqualmie, Skykomish, and other allied bands and tribes that signed the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliot. “[The Tulalip Reservation] was created to provide a permanent home for the Snohomish, Snoqualmie, Skagit, Suiattle, Samish, and Stillaguamish Tribes and allied bands living in the region.”) The reservation is located in Tulalip, WA, next to Marysville, WA, in the county of Snohomish.
