Questions that will be asked when you call

• The name, address and age of the child/youth
• The name and address of the child/youth's parent, guardian or other persons having custody of the child/youth
• The nature and extent of the abuse or neglect
• Any evidence of previous incidences
• Any other information which may be helpful in establishing the cause of the child/youth's abuse or neglect and the identity of the perpetrator

You do not need to have all of the above information when you call to make a report, but the more accurate information you can provide, the better equipped the offices will be to assess the child/youth's safety.

Your Life, Your Rights: A guide for youth in foster care, ages 12+

Independence: For Washington State Foster Youth: A website with information and resources for Foster youth transitioning from Foster care to adulthood

Foster Club: A website and organization connecting and engaging current and former Foster youth to promote training, education, advocacy, policy & systems change, and provide resources.

The Snohomish County Juvenile Court handles youth trials and sentencing for offenses and crimes committed by youth under 18, including:

• Diversion
• Probation
• Truancy
• Special Sex Offender Treatment (SSODA)
• Substance Use Disorder/Mental Health Disposition (SUDMHD)

For first and minor offenses, first steps may include Probation Services or Diversion Agreements. See more in this Juvenile Justice Booklet and the WA Courts Juvenile Offense proceedings page.

For more serious offenses, youth may be referred to Detention Services.

Interpreter Services are always provided at the Snohomish County Juvenile Court if needed.

Youth referred to Juvenile Rehabilitation (DCYF) by the Juvenile Court are typically at highest-risk, and have committed serious crimes, or have accrued an extensive criminal history.

Services include (but are not limited to):

• Residential Facilities
• Evidence-Based Treatments
  • Residential Care
  • Functional Family Parole (FFP): Reentry Aftercare through Functional Family Parole Services
  • Family Integrated Transitions (FIT): Provides individual, family services to juvenile offenders with mental health and chemical dependency disorders during period of transition from incarceration back to community.
  • Functional Family Therapy (FFT): Short-term intervention program with ~12-14 sessions over 3-5 months. Primarily for 11- to 18-year-olds referred for behavioral or emotional problems by juvenile justice or DCYF.
  • Substance Use Treatment: Programs include: Kalama SUD Treatment; SMART SUD Treatment; TIDES SUD Treatment; Opioid UD Prevention and Treatment; Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach/Assertive Continuing Care; Matrix Model; WISe
  • Washington State Aggression Replacement Training (ART): Cognitive behavioral intervention designed to assist youth with aggression, reduce anti-social behaviors and offer an alternative of prosocial skills.

  • Snohomish Youth Residential Homes: Director: 360-659-9139
  • Male youth age 13-18 who are struggling with severe emotional, behavioral and/or psychiatric problems; must be referred by DCYF.
  • Three residences in Snohomish County - all serve adjudicated youth sex offenders (depending on level)
  • SERVICES:
    • Behavioral Rehabilitation Services (BRS) therapy
    • Counseling to help youth admit and take responsibility for actions
    • Classes to examine aggression, learn empathy and adopt appropriate responses
    • Structured daily schedule
    • Independent living skill classes
    • Individual and group therapy

Team Child will provide free legal services to any youth involved with Juvenile Rehabilitation services in Washington state. They also provide advocacy, legal guidance, and tutorials.
